The pharmaceutical form of the tablets is rapid release, ensuring the quick release and absorption of melatonin by the body (<20 minutes from ingestion).
Melatonin is a hormone synthesized in the pineal gland of the brain. The production and secretion of melatonin are periodic and controlled by the circadian (daily) "clock," which is synchronized with the light-dark cycle. Thus, the synthesis and secretion of melatonin occur exclusively during the night and are completely inhibited by exposure to daylight. This fact highlights the significant role melatonin plays in sleep physiology and disorders. Indeed, 1 mg of melatonin per dose before bedtime helps reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.
